'I haven't spoken to Britney Spears in 10 years': Justin Timberlake opens up about his teen love

They were pop's teen dream couple, but Justin Timberlake has revealed he not had contact with his former sweetheart Britney Spears in recent years.
The pair split in 2002 after a three-year romance that had fans and tabloids in a frenzy.
While the 30-year-old's career has gone from strength to strength, Britney, 29, suffered a series of personal and professional disasters - including a well-documented mental breakdown.
Despite various rumours Timberlake had reached out to his ex girlfriend during her times of trouble, he insists otherwise.
'I wish her the best - that goes without saying. We haven’t spoken in 9 or 10 years,' he tells the latest issue of Vanity Fair.
'We were two birds of the same feather - small-town kids, doing the same thing.
'But then you become adults, and the way you were as kids doesn’t make any sense. I won’t speak on her, but at least for me, I was a totally different person.'
He continues: 'I just don’t think we were normal; there was nothing normal about our existence. We spent way too much time being the biggest thing for teenyboppers.'

'He didn't admit the cheating to her, even though we all knew it,' a friend told America's Us Weekly.
Various reports also linked him to Mila Kunis, who stars alongside him the upcoming comedy, Friends With Benefits.
He was last month spotted cosying up to House star Olivia Wilde at an LA nightclub, however she later denied rumours of a romance.
This week, he was spotted keeping company with former Full House star Ashley Olsen.

Boasts of drug taking and life in a girl gang. Say hello to X Factor's new judge Tulisa

The sun has risen over Ibiza by 7am, but the clubbers are still chasing a good time in Pacha nightclub.
One group, fuelled by champagne and vodka shots, is more raucous than most, and includes a young woman with bleached hair wearing masses of gold jewellery, with a huge tattoo covering her back and shoulder.
She has put up her hair using knickers as a hairband – an act her pals find hysterically funny.
The partygoer is Tula Paulinea Contostavlos, known as Tulisa, who will replace Cheryl Cole on the X Factor judging panel.
Simon Cowell thinks she is ‘fantastic’, and has decreed that Tulisa, who has had three hit albums with hip-hop group N-Dubz, is what the show needs to give it more ‘edge’.
Her £500,000 deal has just been finalised and she will judge the first X Factor auditions in Birmingham today.
She is, though, a somewhat controversial choice for a prime-time family entertainment show.
Tulisa, 22, has not only admitted to frequent drug use in her past, but was also a member of a violent girl gang as a teenager.
Known as the ‘Greek Grenade’ because of her hell-raising tendencies, her PR people insist her bad behaviour is behind her, but only last year, she was asked to leave a hotel in Miami after trashing her room following a drunken night out.

What’s more, in 2009, she was involved in a late-night fight outside a convenience store in North London that left one man with knife wounds and Tulisa in court as a defence witness.
Tulisa’s then-fiance, Adam Bailey, admitted to swinging a baseball bat ‘in self-defence’ during the scuffle, and Tulisa said a youth had pulled a gun on her.
A man was found nearby suffering a stab wound to his abdomen.
Bailey was charged with – but later cleared of – wounding with intent. Tulisa was arrested, but no further action was taken.

So why would Cowell choose a woman with such a chequered past to help front the reinvention of X Factor?
A source close to the deal said: ‘The producers love her because she is opinionated, young and credible. She likes to tell it how it is.’
That’s something of an understatement, since Tulisa holds opinions that are as vulgar as they are inarticulate.
She told one of her Twitter followers they were ‘ugly’, adding: ‘Shame ur mum didn’t aborted u.’

There have been reports that during a screen-test with X Factor bosses, Tulisa swore so much that the executives turned pale with fear, although her management deny this.
‘I woke up in an ambulance and never smoked weed again’
However, Tulisa is unapologetic about her bad language, saying it’s just the way she had to be while growing up in a council flat in Camden, North London.
In fairness, she had a tougher childhood than most. Her mother Ann Byrne, a singer, was diagnosed with schizophrenic disorder when Tulisa was a baby.
Tulisa also endured severe bullying at school, where she was set upon repeatedly, and on one occasion had a bottle smashed over her head.

She attempted suicide aged 14 by swallowing painkillers. Three years later, she slashed her wrists.
By then, she was smoking marijuana and drinking heavily. When she was 14, she started having heart palpitations because of her drug use.
One day she blacked out. ‘I woke up in an ambulance and never smoked weed again,’ she said.

Tulisa’s escape came via music. When she was 11, her uncle Byron asked her to join a band with her cousin Dappy and his best friend Fazer.
The three started recording at a local studio, and Uncle Byron funded them by working as a hairdresser six days a week.
They were on the brink of success in 2007 when Byron died suddenly at the age of 50, but the band pressed ahead with their first album, called Uncle B in his memory.
Tulisa said: ‘He saw us as famous pop stars and convinced us it could happen.’
And it did. Their big break came when they hired Jonathan Shalit, known for guiding the careers of Charlotte Church and Myleene Klass, as their manager.
It is Shalit who has helped smooth over numerous whiffs of scandal, and most likely Shalit who encouraged Tulisa to tone down her reputation as a hellraiser.
Perhaps that’s why she said on television recently: ‘I don’t condone drugs. I have never taken them and I never will.’ It was a curious declaration given her previous confessions.
Shalit said: ‘She is the sensible matriarch. She is definitely the clean-living one.’
That’s probably true – though, of course, it’s all relative. Whether Tulisa can control her wilder outbursts enough to front a family show like X Factor is another matter altogether.

Caught out there? Amy Childs looks surprised as she leaves club with footballer Jack Cork

Just last month she posed with her boyfriend Joe Hurlock in a sexy photoshoot and declared that he was ‘the one’.
But Amy Childs seemed to have put her boyfriend to the back of her mind as she left a nightclub with footballer Jack Cork in the early hours of Monday morning.
The reality TV star was seen sauntering out of a club at 5am with the 21-year-old, who is currently playing for Burnley on loan.

Childs, 20, then tried to hide her face with her hair and was also seen making swearing gestures with her hands.
But despite being caught on camera The Only Way is Essex star, who was dressed in a bright coral dress with neckline embellishment, still walked off with the footballer.
Childs has been living it up in Marbella with her co-stars but it seems all the partying had taken its toll. She was seen sporting a number of painful-looking blisters on her lips as she soaked up the sunshine on her final day in Spain.

Controversy: Male model Andrej Pejic was voted FHM's 98th sexiest woman

The waves that Andrej Pejic has been sending through the fashion world ever since he started modelling women's clothes are about to go tidal.
The male model has been voted into 98th place on FHM's list of the world's sexiest women.
But it seems that the magazine does not agree with its readers who voted for the model - or perhaps those who chose Pejic were hoping for a chauvinist reaction?
'Designers are hailing him as the next big thing,' FHM reads. 'We think "thing" is quite accurate.'
Pejic's blurb also says: 'The gender bender has jumped the gun in hoping he might one day be signed as a Victoria's Secret Model (pass the sick bucket).'
FHM's writer goes on to imply that Pejic has been trying to hide his gender, before adding: 'More troubling is the fact that Andrej is not the only one when it comes to supermodels that are not all they seem.'
The outrage caused by these comments sparked FHM to remove the entry from its website. But the entry is still running in the print version of the list which comes with this month's edition.
A spokesperson for FHM told the Telegraph: 'Andrej Pejic appears at number 98 in FHM Magazine's 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2011.

As Clarks' profits reach an all-time high, Alexa Chung and pals fly the flag for granny chic in socks and sandals

Remember those sensible sandals your mother used to make you wear? In boring navy blue or brown leather, the thick-strapped, wide-soled monstrosities plagued our school days.
My own mother was – and still is – adamant that little girls need only two pairs of footwear: a well-fitting pair of closed-toe shoes for winter and a buckle-up sandal for summer. If both were from Clarks, all the better.
No matter that all I wanted was a pair of sky blue jellies. I was frogmarched past Chelsea Girl and into Clarks, where I would be bought the dreaded sensible sandal that would have to see me through until September.
Granny chic: Alexa Chung is at the forefront of the current fashion for sensible sandals

Granny chic: Alexa Chung is at the forefront of the granny sandal trend

The rest of the summer would be spent trying to scuff them enough that they were no longer fit for wear – but the tenacious brutes were practically indestructible.
Not for my childhood the glittery ballet pumps or colourful Converse young children have in their extensive shoe collections today.

So isn’t it ironic - and more than a little bit scary - that while today’s precocious tweens totter along prematurely in their miniature high heels or sequined pumps, us fully grown followers of fashion are turning back to those sensible sandals – and the sensible shops - of our own childhoods.

Alexa Chung deserves to be given shares in Clarks for her devotion to the granny sandal. Quirky singer Florence Welch is a fan, while Chloe Sevigny packed hers for Coachella festival.
Move over Jimmy Choo. The buckle-up granny sandal has the fashion world in its grip.
Formerly the preserve of timid librarians, support-tight wearing church volunteers or six-year olds, the granny sandal has gone mainstream.
And as its mothership Clarks yesterday reported record profits – hitting £100million for the first time since being established in 1825 – the Somerset-born label can also lay claim to having found enviable – if accidental - cachet among our maverick style leaders.

In a moment of great serendipity that even Clarks could not have predicted, the cool crowd have adopted the school sandal as their own, propelling it from geek chic to, well, just chic.
Sales of Clarks' £45 Kestrel Soar - identical to the tan sandal I wore as a six-year-old schoolgirl - have rocketed, and pairs of the tan buckle-up have even found their way into the closets of trend ambassador Alexa Chung and Florence Welch.
And in a stroke of delicious irony, having mocked their elders for years for committing the sartorial sin of pairing their granny sandals (we should point out here that grannies just call them 'sandals') with socks, the in-crowd is now adopting the socks and sandals trend themselves.
This isn't an overt or ostentatious trend though. The buckle-up's return has been by stealth - the kind of trend that creeps up unnoticed.
First your coolest friend wears a pair and you wonder if she’s had a secret bunion operation, or a lobotomy in the part of her brain responsible for fashion choices.
Then you spot the shoes on the most avant-garde of trendsetting celebrities.
Before long, you realise it’s not they who are uncool. It’s YOU.
And now that the granny sandal has reached beyond the realm of the blue-rinse brigade and into mainstream fashion, its ubiquity is staggering.
For your own fix of geek chic, Clarks is the original and still the best – you know the things will last, after all – but Kurt Geiger and Office have their own versions (Alexa loves the £75 patent Lemur style from KG), while Office's £58 Silas ('£58 for a pair of sandals?', I can hear my mother say) are classic granny chic.
U.S. site mysaltwatersandals.com is the online Mecca for granny sandals, and is where Alexa Chung bought her navy blue sandals for just $34.95 (£21).
Pick up a pair, pop on some socks and make your mothers proud.
